RsaeireI second TheRing’s comments. I don’t see the point in having countless codecs installed on a system, when the likelihood of a conflict is very high.
I tend to use Media Player Classic Home Cinema (MPC HC), FFDShow, CoreAVC and PowerDVD. Most of my viewing is HD content, so this works wonders for me. MPC HC takes care of everything from 720p mkv files to Blu-ray, while PowerDVD is used to primarily watch DVDs, as I like the interface and navigation options.
