I downloaded UNetbootin and used that to download the latest version (8.1) then I ran it up and used the desktop install option and just followed the install procedure.
I used manual as well, but 40Gig is a bit big IMO, I only allocated 10 – also make sure the space allocated is not assigned to anything, i.e. free space.
I just accepted the default settings when setting everything up and it works fine.
