Just read the first post regarding sandblasting the lid. DO NOT even think of it, we manufacture sandblasting equipment and the levels of static induced using plastic or any other media will completely destroy anything electronic. You can regularly see static discharge sparks of a couple of inches long when some of the machines are running.

And then there is the dust – it gets everywhere and is a really nasty abbrasive material.
