Applications I run that people might be interested to know about:

*VMware Workstation 6 – of course it’s a bit slow but surprisingly usable.
*Wampserver (a local webserver) – no problems
*Visual C++ Express
*Netbeans IDE
Regarding VMware I’ve run all sorts of things, including Windows 7 and MS Office on Windows XP. Slower than my desktop of course but acceptable. BTW I have 2GB of RAM.
I agree with the point made about the screen real estate being more of a limit than anything else. I’ve been looking at UML tools but found using them a bit of a trial. And certainly for things like that and the IDEs I avoid the trackpad whenever possible – I highly recommend a bluetooth mouse.
