I collected my NC10 today in black and I am so happy with it!
First of all, the glossy black looks great, but, as everyone has mentioned, attracts fingerprints like a magnet. I don’t mind too much, as it is definitely worth it for the overall aesthetic.
The initial start-up took a while, due to the Windows XP setup, and I had to restart about 3 times due to the laptop configuration and recovery setup. Once done though, I was greeted to the Windows desktop and just took everything in. I instantly noticed the lower resolution of the screen, due to the fact that about 8 icons appeared in the system tray, but that won’t be an issue for me as I don’t plan on browsing websites much. It will definitely take some time getting used to the low resolution, however, the screen does look great; even with the plastic cover left on.
One thing that amazed me was how bright the screen was. I’ve read countless reviews whereby battery life is given based upon Wi-Fi and Bluetooth usage, screen brightness etc, but I don’t know how anyone can use the brightness above 2, possibly 3 max, as it is blinding any higher. I would no doubt need to turn up the brightness when outdoors, but I don’t plan on using it anywhere but inside, so I will be leaving it on its current setting of 1.
I plan on buying a few accessories such as a more robust case, external DVD drive and I also plan on buying 2GB of ram; as I plan on using Photoshop and Dreamweaver, the more ram the better.
All in all, I am thoroughly impressed with the Samsung NC10. The colour is great, the look and feel of the laptop is perfect and it is so light that I will probably lose it without noticing; not something I’m hoping ever happens.
